 Bamboo Furniture
Bamboo furniture is a low cost, lightweight and environmentally friendly type of furniture. Often confused with rattan, bamboo is not a vine or a palm but actually a grass. Bamboo grows very quickly, up to 30 feet tall in two to three years. For this reason, plantations and factories are able to produce bamboo furniture and bamboo furniture-making raw materials in an easily renewable manner.
Bamboo is a very versatile material used for much more than simply making bamboo furniture. Bamboo, when young, is a delicious food found on many Chinese menus worldwide, but especially in China. There are 1000's of different ways to prepare bamboo for eating. Bamboo is also used for making flooring, fences and even clothing.
Bamboo furniture is commonly thought of as "Florida room furniture", and as porch furniture, however bamboo when properly finished produces a beautiful natural wood-like tone and is an excellent material for making many types of furniture.
Bamboo armoires, bamboo chests and dressers and even bamboo dining tables can be a terrific complement the more frequently seen bamboo furniture like bamboo chairs, small tables and sofas. Bamboo can be finished in varying tones ranging from green/yellow all the way to a deep, rich brown color. Finished properly, bamboo furniture is just as strong as wood furniture.
